It never completely surprises me when I see news stories about how people take their lives as other peoples responsibility but a story I read on the BBC website I have to say shocked me a little.
Two couples and a one year old baby were on a speed boat that broke down off the coast of Anglesey, now this I admit can happen to absolutely anyone but it was the next part that completely shocked and angered me. The group had “No Life Jackets, No Flares and Could Not Work the Radio!”
This in my opinion is a total disregard for the elements and what they are capable of doing to you, not just the natural elements but even the element of chance and the fact that they didn´t know what they were doing put lives at risk.
ALWAYS make sure you have a safety device or a signaling device with you at all times when you are participating in any form of remote sports. Don’t leave your life in the hands of others who might not be able to find you.
Luckily this story had a happy ending but had they not been lucky enough to get a mobile phone signal they could well have been in a great deal more trouble than they already were.
